Why we started Internet Garden

Written by Minami

When I first met Fredd in London, he was 19, and I was 23. We took the same short course at Central Saint Martins (an art and design college in London).

Before I came to London, I studied art theory at university and worked for an art centre in Japan. I still remember being so fascinated by what he created (paintings, drawings, fashion design, zines, etc.) that I thought he would become a great artist.

After the course, I returned to Japan and started working for an art centre, and Fredd continued his studies in London. It was a challenging time for me as my father was in his last moments after fighting cancer for some years. That was the moment we started to get more intimate through texting. Fredd always tried to listen to me and asked me how I felt, and it helped me so much to get through the hardships. Despite the very long physical distance, I felt him very close and his warmth. To this day, I truly appreciate that he was there for me.

After a few years, I quit my job and started studying and working in London again. The official reason was to pursue art further, but I probably just wanted to be with Fredd. Since then, we have been in London, Switzerland, and Japan, sometimes together, sometimes separately.

Last year, after ten years since we met for the first time (we don't know how long we've been in a "relationship"), we got married. I was not a big fan of marriage (I always felt like marriage was just a formality), but for us, it was the easiest way to live together because of the visa, and I'm very happy that we did it. Being together means a lot to me after such a long-distance relationship. Walking up next to him every morning makes me feel grateful.

Since we married and started living together, it naturally occurred to us that we wanted to do something, like work on projects together. Each of us tried separately several times before, but somehow, they did not work out. Now, we feel like we have found a missing piece. We named our project "Internet Garden".

Internet Garden is a small garden on the Internet. There, we plant seeds of various fun and exciting projects and care for them daily with lots of love. We also look forward to welcoming you to our garden. Let's see together what will grow in the next ten years! I wish for a full of fun surprises.

The first news from the garden is coming soon. Stay tuned!
